"I've been waiting 12 years to say this -- ladies and gentlemen, D'Angelo!"
That's how Questlove introduced his dear friend to the stage at the Bonnaroo Festival earlier today.
And yes it has been 12 years since the singer has appeared on a stage in the United States of America!
D'Angelo and his all-star band did a massive a 90-minute jam session including Jimi Hendrix's "Have You Ever Been to Electric Ladyland," Parliament Funkadelic's "Funky Dollar Bill," Led Zeppelin's "What Is and What Should Never Be" and The Beatles' "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window," but no new music.
After D'Angelo wrapped his set Questlove revealed to the roaring fans that it all came together during a six-hour rehearsal period on Saturday.
The "Brown Sugar' singer has been emerging back into the spotlight. He recently showed us he still got it, in an interview and spread in GQ magazine.
And he'll be back on the stage soon. D'Angelo is set to be opening up the 2012 Essence Music Festival, in New Orleans on July 6th.
